Uncovering the Harsh Realities of Animal Rescue in Apache County

Heather Hutchinson, a dedicated animal advocate based in Concho, Arizona, has seen the unimaginable in Apache County. Her work with Concho Animal Advocates has exposed her to heartbreaking scenes of neglect and abuse that challenge the belief of many about the conditions faced by animals in the United States.

The stories she recounts are nothing short of horrifying – from starving dogs resorting to cannibalism to kennels filled with deceased animals. The remote area of Apache County has become a hotbed for animal hoarding, creating a dire situation that Hutchison and her non-profit are tirelessly working to address.

While Concho Animal Advocates initially aimed to promote pet spaying and neutering in the county, it has morphed into a full-blown rescue operation. Hutchison’s home has turned into an impromptu shelter, accommodating animals with various health issues and disabilities that no one else wants to care for.

Despite many challenges, including juggling a job and caring for her son, Hutchison never hesitates to step in and save animals in life-threatening situations. Her commitment to rescuing abandoned and neglected animals is unwavering, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

One particularly gut-wrenching case involved the rescue of 18 dogs left behind after their owner passed away. The conditions they were found in, including the consumption of another deceased animal, shed light on the dire need for intervention in Apache County.

Animal hoarding in the area has reached alarming levels, with hoarders often joining re-homing groups on social media with devastating consequences. Hutchison’s experiences highlight the urgent need for a dedicated animal control department and shelter in Apache County to prevent further suffering.

Despite the challenges and frustrations she faces, Hutchison remains steadfast in her mission to advocate for the animals in Apache County. Through her efforts, she hopes to bring about lasting change and ensure that no animal in the county has to endure such neglect and abuse.
