Tragic Plane Crash Claims Life of Arizona Woman in Wyoming

A tragic plane crash was reported on Sunday morning in Park County, Wyoming, claiming the life of 78-year-old Mary Lou Sanderson from Lake Havasu, Arizona. The crash occurred near Franc’s Peak in Meeteetse, leaving the pilot injured and currently receiving treatment in Montana.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office released a statement confirming the incident and mentioned that the National Transportation Safety Board will be conducting an investigation into the crash.

A Closer Look at the Phoenix Metropolitan Area

Known as “The Valley” to locals, the Phoenix Metropolitan Area is the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest, encompassing various major cities such as Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, and more. The Valley’s combined population stands at 4,845,832 according to the 2020 United States Census, making it the 11th largest metropolitan area in the country.

Maricopa County, where Phoenix is located, is the 4th most populous county in the United States with 4,485,414 residents. The county is larger than seven U.S. states and boasts one of the largest park systems in the nation, with approximately 120,000 acres of open space parks.

Phoenix, the county seat and state capital, is also the 5th most populous city in the U.S. Maricopa County was named after the Maricopa Native American Tribe, honoring the indigenous people of the region.
