Get ready for the most anticipated vice presidential debate of the 2024 election! Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walz will face off in a high-stakes showdown that will captivate audiences across the nation. Hosted by CBS News in New York, this debate is a chance for the underdogs to shine and for the top lieutenants to prove their worth.

According to a new AP-NORC poll, Walz is currently more popular than Vance, setting the stage for an intense and potentially fierce night in Manhattan. As the two rivals go head-to-head for the first time, here’s what you need to know:

VP debate rules

The candidates will stand behind lecterns, without opening statements or notes. Microphones will not be muted, but CBS reserves the right to do so if necessary. Candidates can only have a pen, a pad of paper, and a bottle of water on stage.

Fact-checking will be left up to the candidates themselves, marking a departure from previous debates this year. In past debates, moderators have limited follow-up questions and fact-checking, but this time, it’s up to the candidates to keep each other honest.

Don’t miss this historic vice presidential debate, where the fate of the nation hangs in the balance. Tune in and witness a clash of ideologies and personalities that will shape the course of the 2024 election!
