Monty Reuling: A Tragic Turn of Events After Leaving Rehab
Monty Reuling, a 62-year-old man, checked into The River Source rehab and detox facility in Arizona City on August 19. However, just a week later, he left the facility on foot, feeling paranoid and unsafe. Tragically, four days later, his family received the devastating news that his body had been found in a canal north of the town.
His daughters, Regan Reuling and Brittany Farley, were left grappling with unanswered questions and a sense of helplessness. They had rushed to Arizona from out of state as soon as they learned of their father’s disappearance.
According to Regan Reuling, Monty left the facility due to withdrawal-induced paranoia and hallucinations, fearing for his safety. The facility had contacted the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) about his behavior, but since he was not under court-ordered rehabilitation, he was free to leave.
Despite initial contact with PCSO, Monty declined any assistance and disappeared. The family later found CCTV footage of him at a Dollar General store shortly after he left the facility, carrying a bag and fully clothed.
After days of searching and distributing missing person flyers, the tragic discovery was made on August 30 when Monty’s body was found in a canal. The cause of his death is yet to be determined by the Pinal County Medical Examiner, and an investigation is ongoing.
Regrettably, his daughters believe that more could have been done to help their father, expressing frustration at the lack of support and resources available during the search.
An Ongoing Investigation
The circumstances surrounding Monty Reuling’s untimely demise raise many questions, emphasizing the need for better support and resources for individuals struggling with addiction and mental health issues. The family continues to seek answers and closure, hoping that lessons can be learned from this tragedy.
