Rudy Giuliani’s Lawyer Argues for Dismissal of Arizona Fake Elector ChargesStay Informed

Rudy Giuliani, former lawyer for Donald Trump, is facing charges in Arizona’s fake elector case for contesting Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election. His attorney, Mark Williams, argues that Giuliani was merely exercising his rights to free speech and petition the government.

The indictment against Giuliani alleges that he spread false claims of election fraud in Arizona and presided over a meeting where he asserted that officials did not verify the accuracy of the election results. Williams questions how Giuliani could have known that his actions were criminal.

Currently, there is a debate in court over whether the charges against the Republicans involved in the fake elector scheme should be dismissed. Prosecutors are expected to respond to Giuliani’s arguments soon. Despite not being a fake elector himself, the indictment accuses Giuliani of pressuring officials to change the outcome of Arizona’s election results in favor of Trump.

Giuliani is one of 18 Republicans charged in the case, with some already resolving their charges. Former Trump campaign attorney Jenna Ellis cooperated with prosecutors, resulting in the dismissal of her charges. The remaining defendants have pleaded not guilty, and their trial is set to begin on January 5, 2026.

Overall, the case highlights the ongoing legal battles surrounding the 2020 election and the actions taken by individuals to contest its outcome. It remains to be seen how the court will rule on the dismissal of charges and what implications it may have for future election-related cases.
