Phoenix Police Officer Shot in Line of Duty Released from Hospital
A Phoenix police officer who was shot in the line of duty Tuesday night has been released from the hospital, the Phoenix Police Department announced. The officer, along with his family, have requested privacy during this time of recovery.
The other officer who was shot remains in critical condition.
“The officers have been with the Department five and two years,” the department said in a statement. “Both are certified Field Training Officers in the Mountain View Precinct who help to train those who have just graduated the academy.”
The shooting incident took place near McDowell Road and 16th Street on Tuesday night.
Officers arrested Saul Bal, 41, in connection with the shooting. Bal, who has a history of prior convictions, faces two attempted murder charges.
Despite being admitted into prison and subsequently released to community supervision, Bal’s sentence was set to end just two days after the shooting.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego expressed her support for the injured officers and their families, emphasizing the risks and sacrifices officers make in their service to the city.
The Phoenix Police Department has received overwhelming support from the community following the incident, with many areas around the hospital adorned with blue ribbons.
Interim Police Chief Michael Sullivan thanked the public for their ongoing support and urged the community to keep both officers and their families in their thoughts and prayers.
For those who wish to support the officers, the Phoenix Police Foundation and the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association have set up donation pages.
