Increasing Safety in Arizona Schools: $15 Million Allocated for Armed Officers
Recent threats against Arizona schools have prompted Superintendent Tom Horne to advocate for more armed officers on school campuses. The Arizona Department of Education has identified $15 million in surplus funds to be used for this purpose.
In light of the escalating threats on social media directed at schools across Arizona, Superintendent of Public Education Tom Horne emphasized the importance of utilizing these funds to place police officers in schools.
“There has been a significant increase in threats to campuses in Arizona and nationwide, making it more important than ever to do everything possible to provide armed officers in schools,” Horne stated in a press release.
Several school districts in Mesa, Phoenix, Buckeye, Scottsdale, and Tucson recently responded to violent school threats that turned out to be non-credible. Multiple young individuals are facing criminal charges for participating in spreading these threats.
The Department of Education aims to allow schools to start applying for the additional grant money starting on October 21st.
