Maricopa County to Receive Funding for New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Exciting news for Maricopa County residents! The Maricopa County Air Quality Department is set to receive a $15 million grant to install new electric vehicle charging stations in publicly accessible areas. This initiative comes as a much-needed step towards reducing air pollution and improving air quality in the Phoenix Metro area.
The grant, awarded through the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program, was announced by Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly. Senator Kelly emphasized the importance of such clean energy investments in making real progress towards cleaner air and sustainable infrastructure for communities.
The funding will be specifically allocated to facilities participating in the Maricopa County Travel Reduction Program, which aims to combat air pollution in the Valley. This program has been in place since 1989, and the addition of new charging stations will further support its efforts.
It’s worth noting that Arizona as a state has also been making strides in promoting electric vehicles, with $76 million allocated in 2022 for the construction of charging stations along freeways. This demonstrates a growing commitment to sustainable transportation and reducing emissions across the state.
