Arizona Governor Concerned About Potential Gas Price Increase Due to California Legislation
Arizona’s Governor, Katie Hobbs, is raising concerns about how proposed legislation in California could potentially raise gas prices in neighboring states, including Arizona. In a letter co-written with Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, Hobbs expressed worries over the impact of legislation that could change how California’s refineries are regulated.
Recently, California Governor, Gavin Newsom, called for a special session to address gas prices in the state, where a bill imposing inventory requirements on refineries is being reviewed. The Western States Petroleum Association has warned that these proposed inventory levels could lead to higher gas prices, prompting the neighboring governors to voice their concerns.
Hobbs and Lombardo emphasized the importance of California pipelines in supplying fuel to Arizona and Nevada and urged Newsom to delay action on the legislation until further policy discussions can take place. Arizona lawmakers have also penned a letter to Newsom, cautioning against rushing the legislation without considering its broader impact on the Western states.
