Welcome to our blog, where we share stories of resilience, community, and the power of giving back. Today, we want to shine a light on the incredible strength and kindness of the Nickerson family as they navigate through a heartbreaking loss and honor the memory of their beloved Chenoa.

In a tragic turn of events, Chenoa Nickerson lost her life to a flash flood while hiking in Havasu Canyon. Despite the devastation, her family is choosing to channel their grief into gratitude by giving back to the heroes who located Chenoa’s body and brought her home.

Chenoa, 33, was swept away by the powerful floodwaters, leaving her husband in distress. Search and rescue teams worked tirelessly for three days before finding her body 20 miles downriver in the Colorado River. Her brother, Janosh Wolters, shared, “The only thing that we want is Chenoa’s memory to live on forever, and knowing her heart and what she would want, I think it’s a perfect way to pay it forward to the men and women of the search and rescue and other first responders that helped locate her body.”

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the National Park Service Search and Rescue in Chenoa’s honor. They recognize the crucial need for resources in these operations and wish to ensure that future operations are well-equipped to handle emergencies.

In addition to financial contributions, the family is asking for support in the form of thank you cards for the Grand Canyon National Park Search and Rescue team. Cards can be sent to Grand Canyon National Park, PO Box 129, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023, to express gratitude for their courageous efforts in finding Chenoa.

Remembering Chenoa, the family encourages others to spend time outdoors and appreciate the beauty of nature, a passion that was close to Chenoa’s heart. Her infectious smile and love for exploring the world will always be remembered by those who knew her.
