Vincent Ian Acosta Pleads Guilty in Crash that Killed Three College Students
Phoenix – Vincent Ian Acosta recently pleaded guilty for his role in a tragic crash on Interstate 17 that took the lives of three Grand Canyon University students. The incident, which occurred on October 10, 2022, near Table Mesa Road in New River, has left a mark on the community.
Acosta, 27, pleaded guilty on August 14 to three counts of second-degree murder. These charges are classified as a Class 1 dangerous felony, which could result in a lengthy prison sentence for Acosta. At the time of his arrest, blood test results indicated that he may have been impaired at the time of the crash.
The three victims of the collision were freshman college students from Grand Canyon University – Abriauna Hoffman, 18, Elaine Hunter Balberdi, 19, and Magdalyn (Maggie) Ogden, 18. Their tragic loss has deeply impacted the community and their loved ones.
Acosta is scheduled to be sentenced on September 27, where the full extent of the consequences of his actions will be determined.
