Exploring Arizona’s Specialty License Plates

Arizona offers over 100 specialty license plate options, with funds generated going towards supporting charities and nonprofits. Among the latest additions to the collection are plates paying tribute to Phoenix Rising FC, the Hualapai Tribe, and Rotary International.

Most specialty plates in Arizona cost $25 per year, with $17 of that amount going directly to the charity or nonprofit affiliated with the plate. For example, the funds from the Hualapai plate will support ongoing human services benefiting Hualapai elders and youth.

Discovering “The Valley” – Phoenix Metropolitan Area

Referred to as “The Valley” by locals, the Phoenix Metropolitan Area is the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest. It includes major cities like Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, and more. Whether a city falls in the “East Valley” or “West Valley” depends on its proximity to Phoenix.

The population of the Valley’s cities collectively reaches 4,845,832 individuals, making it the 11th largest metropolitan area in the U.S. just behind Boston and Atlanta.

Maricopa County: A Land of Many Wonders

Maricopa County, the 4th largest county in the U.S. by population, boasts 4,485,414 residents and covers 9,224 square miles. The county contains approximately 63% of Arizona’s population and is larger than seven U.S. states in terms of land area.

Home to one of the nation’s largest park systems, Maricopa County offers around 120,000 acres of open space parks with numerous trails, nature centers, and campgrounds. Phoenix, the county seat, serves as both the state capital and the 5th most populous city in the U.S.

Named after the Maricopa (Piipaash) Native American Tribe, Maricopa County is a diverse and vibrant region with much to offer visitors and residents alike.
