The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Board Votes to Terminate Chief Scott Freitag

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Board made a crucial decision on Monday as they voted to terminate the contract of Chief Scott Freitag. This decision comes after Chief Freitag was censured by the International Association of Firefighters for allegations of bullying union members and failing to meet minimum staffing levels.

Following a 3-2 vote by the board, Chief Freitag, who denied the allegations, was relieved of his duties. Don Jongewaard, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona, commended the board’s decision, emphasizing the need for CAFMA to prioritize resources for faster and more efficient emergency response.

Supporters of Chief Freitag had submitted letters prior to the meeting, praising him as a “pillar of leadership” in the community. However, the board ultimately chose to uphold the decision to terminate his contract.

The CAFMA district covers over 300 square miles of Yavapai County, serving Chino Valley and Prescott Valley. Moving forward, the board aims to enhance emergency response capabilities and ensure the safety of residents in the area.
