Mark Meadows Faces Charges in Attempt to Overturn 2020 Presidential Race in Arizona
Former President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, is currently facing nine felony charges in relation to his alleged involvement in an organized attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Race in Arizona.
In a recent court hearing, Meadows’ defense attorneys argued for the case to be moved to federal court, citing federal questions raised by the charges. They claimed that Meadows, in his role as chief of staff, may have immunity protections as a federal official, even if his actions were not directly related to official government business.
Prosecutors from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, however, presented arguments against moving the case to federal court, stating that Meadows’ electioneering actions were not part of his official duties and should be tried in state court. They also pointed out that the defense missed the deadline to file the request for the transfer.
Recently, Meadows appeared virtually in Maricopa County related to the ‘Fake Electors’ case, where defense attorneys for several individuals facing charges in the same case called for the charges to be dismissed. A decision on this matter is pending from Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Bruce Cohen.
