The Arizona Cardinals Begin the Journey to their Initial 53-Man Roster
The Arizona Cardinals started their week with 91 players on the roster. However, they now face the task of cutting down their roster size by 38 players by 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
TEMPE, Ariz. — The journey to the initial 53-man roster has begun for the Arizona Cardinals. In a recent move, they released six players on Monday, reducing their roster from 91 to 85 players. This means that they still need to trim down the roster by an additional 32 players before the NFL’s roster cut deadline on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Arizona time.
Some notable players who were released include wide receiver Zay Jones, who has been suspended for the first five games of the 2024 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Additionally, the team is expected to place rookie defensive end Darius Robinson on injured reserve due to a calf injury he sustained during practice last week.
Players with less than four seasons in the NFL who were cut will go through waivers, giving the Cardinals the option to sign them to the practice squad if they are not claimed by another team. The Cardinals have 16 spots available on their practice squad and may expand it to 17 under the international player exemption rule, potentially for Austrian tight end Bernhard Seikovits.
