Arizona Father Arrested After Child Dies in Hot Car
A tragic incident unfolded in Marana, Arizona, as a 37-year-old father, Christopher Scholtes, is now facing charges of second-degree murder and child abuse. The Marana Police Department arrested Scholtes after his 2-year-old daughter was found unresponsive in a hot car and later passed away.
According to Marana police, evidence suggests that the child was left unattended in the vehicle for up to three hours. Scholtes claimed the child was sleeping in her car seat when he arrived home and decided not to disturb her. He left the car running with the air conditioner on while he went inside the house.
Unfortunately, when the child’s mother returned home, she discovered that the child was still in the vehicle, and the air conditioner was not running. The child was rushed to the hospital but, tragically, did not survive.
Video surveillance from neighbors confirmed that the child had been left in the car for several hours, leading to Scholtes’ arrest and booking into the Pima County jail.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, especially during hot weather.
