Arizonans Shine at the Democratic National Convention
Excitement is in the air as the Democratic National Convention in Chicago reaches its final night, with a stellar lineup of speakers that includes some familiar faces from Arizona. Here’s a rundown of who to look out for on Thursday evening.
One of the highlights of the night will be Vice President Kamala Harris’s acceptance speech, where she is expected to outline her vision and policy agenda for the country. Joining her on the stage are three notable figures from Arizona, making their voices heard on a national platform.
The evening will kick off with pop star Pink headlining the event, followed by civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton. Arizona will be well-represented with former Rep. Gabby Giffords speaking on gun violence, Sen. Mark Kelly addressing the audience, and Rep. Ruben Gallego rounding out the 6 o’clock hour.
The theme of the final night, “For Our Future,” is a fitting conclusion to a week that has seen a diverse range of voices advocating for change and progress. Arizonan John Giles, GOP mayor of Mesa, set the stage earlier in the week by speaking boldly about the need for unity and leadership.
As Giles aptly put it, “The Grand Old Party has been kidnapped by extremists and devolved into a cult: The cult of Donald Trump.” He drew inspiration from the late Sen. John McCain, urging fellow Republicans to prioritize country over party.
In addition to these impactful speeches, the convention has witnessed powerful addresses from the likes of Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and President Joe Biden. The momentum is building as the nation looks toward the upcoming elections with hope and determination.
