The upcoming Olympics in Paris are set to be an emotional farewell for some of the greatest athletes in the world. From gymnastics to basketball, tennis to track and field, a number of iconic competitors will likely be bidding adieu to the Olympics — or their sport in general — in the French capital.

Simone Biles

At 27, Simone Biles is the oldest American woman to make an Olympic gymnastics team since the 1950s. With a career haul of seven Olympic medals, four of them gold, Biles will be looking to add to her impressive collection at the Bercy Arena.

LeBron James

LeBron James, at 39, is about to become the first U.S. men’s basketball player to compete at the Olympics in three different decades. A true legend of the sport, James’ presence at the Olympics is always a highlight.

Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal

Andy Murray, a Wimbledon champion, will be retiring after the Paris Games, aiming to end his career on a high note. Rafael Nadal, another tennis great, may also bid goodbye to the sport at the Olympics. Both athletes have left a lasting impact on the tennis world.

Shelly-Anne Fraser Pryce

Jamaican sprinter Fraser-Pryce has announced that the Paris Games will be her fifth and final Olympics. With eight Olympic medals under her belt, Fraser-Pryce has been a dominant force in sprinting and will be missed in the track and field world.

Gianmarco Tamberi

Italian high jumper Tamberi, known for his showmanship, will be aiming to defend his gold medal in Paris. This Olympics will be a special one for Tamberi and his friend Mutaz Barshim, both of whom have indicated that this will be their final Games.

Sarah Sjöström

Swedish swimming standout Sjöström, a four-time Olympic medalist, will be focusing on the 50-meter freestyle event in Paris. With a world record in this event, Sjöström’s performances are always a sight to behold.

Tom Daley

Tom Daley, Britain’s youngest athlete in 2008, has since become an Olympic gold medalist and a diving sensation. Known for his knitting between dives in Tokyo, Daley’s unique approach to relaxation has charmed fans worldwide.

Mikkel Hansen

Powerful left back Hansen is a familiar face in Danish sports and one of the best handball players ever. With multiple accolades to his name, Hansen’s presence at the Olympics is always a game-changer.

Teddy Riner

French heavyweight judoka Riner is a top medal hope for host nation France. With an impressive collection of Olympic and world medals, Riner is a force to be reckoned with in the judo arena.
