Welcome Back to the United States: The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles
The Paris Games have come to a close with a grand Closing Ceremony at the Stade de France. As the Summer Olympics bid farewell to the French capital, fans are already eagerly anticipating the next four years ahead.
A special treat awaits American fans as the 2028 Summer Olympics are set to return to the United States for the first time in decades. The last time the US hosted the Olympics was in 2002 when Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Games.
Where are the 2028 Summer Olympics?
Los Angeles will play host to the Olympics for the third time, with previous editions held in 1932 and 1984. Events will be spread across the city and surrounding areas, with official venues already announced in nearby Carson and Long Beach. The Los Angeles Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 14-30, 2028.
Looking ahead, Brisbane, Australia, has been chosen to host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
Where are the upcoming Winter Olympics?
The 2026 Winter Olympics will stay in Europe as Italy gears up to host the Milano-Cortina Games. France is eyeing the 2030 Winter Olympics, with a bid focused on ski resorts in the French Alps and the coastal city of Nice. Salt Lake City has been confirmed as the preferred and only candidate for the 2034 Winter Games, bringing the prestigious event back to Utah after 32 years.
When did the Olympics move to every two years?
Until 1992, the Winter and Summer Olympics were held in the same year every four years. In 1994, the games split, and the Olympics began to be held every two years. This change kicked off with the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, followed by the Summer Games in 1996 in Atlanta.
The excitement is building as we look forward to the return of the Olympics to US soil in 2028 and beyond. Let the countdown begin!
