Water Main Break Causes Flooding in Tempe, ArizonaStay Updated with 12News+

Early Wednesday morning, residents in Tempe, Arizona woke up to a nightmare as a water main near Hardy and University Dr. broke, causing extensive flooding in the area. At least two homes were affected by the sudden surge of water.

Neil Sundberg, one of the homeowners impacted by the incident, described his experience, “I got up at 5:30 this morning put my foot on the floor and it was wet.” His house bore the brunt of the water, with the water line on his exterior wall sitting about 8 inches off the ground.

Cleanup crews worked tirelessly throughout the day, tearing out wood flooring and carpeting in an effort to restore normalcy. “The house got wet, every floor in the house got wet,” Sundberg lamented.

Next door, Neil Harrison captured the rising water on his doorbell camera. Despite efforts to mitigate the damage, the water seeped under the floorboards, ruining a significant portion of the carpet.

A spokesperson from the city of Tempe confirmed that four homes lost water supply due to the pipe rupture but assured that restoration efforts were underway. The city was also collaborating with affected homeowners to facilitate cleanup and remediation.

A section of Hardy from 13th Street to Howe remained closed as of Wednesday afternoon, as crews continued to address the aftermath of the water main break.
