Welcome to Casa Grande, Arizona, home to the rising stars of Vista Grande High School. The 2024 season holds special significance for the Spartans, as they honor the memory of a beloved coach and athletic director who have passed away.
When you think of Casa Grande, Union High School may come to mind. However, Vista Grande High School, under the leadership of head coach Jon Roberts, is starting to carve out its own reputation in the community.
Coach Roberts proudly introduces his father, affectionately known as Tad Roberts, who prefers not to be called Leonard. The father-son duo share a special bond on and off the field.
Reflecting on his roots in the community, Coach Roberts reminisces about his upbringing surrounded by cotton fields, now transformed into familiar landmarks like Walmart and Planet Fitness.
A product of Casa Grande Union High School himself, Coach Roberts has deep ties to the area, with family connections to renowned figures like Union head football coach Mark Luna and Union high school athletic director Randy Robbins. Having learned from the best, including coaching legend Paul Moro, Coach Roberts is now paving his own path at Vista Grande.
With a sense of community and family at its core, Vista Grande Football has been on an upward trajectory since Coach Roberts took the helm in 2021. The program’s success is evident in its improved record and growing fan base.
As the team gears up for the 2024 season, which holds great promise, the players and coaching staff are fueled by a shared sense of purpose and dedication to honor their fallen colleagues – assistant coach Robert Palacios and athletic director Louie Ramirez.
Despite the challenges of loss, the Spartans remain united, drawing strength from the memory of their departed mentors. Their resilience and determination are evident as they prepare to take the field and make their community proud.
Join Vista Grande High School as they kick off their season on Friday, October 30th, and witness a team fueled by passion, perseverance, and the spirit of camaraderie.
