The Impact of the Wishes for Teachers Program
For the past two years, Lacey Chavez has been a recipient of a grant awarded to teachers through the Wishes for Teachers program by Fiesta Bowl Charities. This program aims to support teachers who often dip into their own pockets to provide resources for their students.
Lacey Chavez expressed her excitement upon receiving the grant, stating, “I couldn’t believe it, I was so excited.” The grant presented a challenge for Chavez when deciding how to utilize it effectively. In the previous year, she used the grant to purchase an Apple TV for her students and also wanted to obtain craft supplies for an upcoming culture craft day.
Chavez shared that the grant had a positive impact on her students, as they were thrilled to have new materials and engage in classroom activities. She mentioned, “The kids were so excited to know that the money was given to them, and they can use the materials as we do in the classroom. We get all 450 students together and mix them up with teachers to do a craft.”
Sandra Avila from Fiesta Bowl Charities highlighted the importance of education in their philanthropic endeavors and expressed their joy in awarding grants to 500 teachers annually to help fulfill their wishes. Interested teachers can still apply for this year’s program until September 30 at 10 p.m.
