The Bartlett Fire: Latest Updates and Safety Precautions
The Bartlett Fire, one of several wildfires sparked by monsoon storms in the Tonto National Forest on August 4, continues to burn on the northwest side of Bartlett Lake, north of Bartlett Flats. Here are the latest details:
This fire, along with the Walnut and Clair Fires, is currently the largest in the area. The Bartlett Fire has consumed approximately 6,161 acres and is 69% contained, according to the Southwest Area Incident Management Team.
While Bartlett Dam Road has been reopened since August 9, all National Forest System lands within 100 feet of the Bartlett Lake shoreline have been closed for public safety due to the increased flash flood potential and burn recovery efforts.
Despite some closures, Bartlett Lake Marina and the Jojoba boat launch area remain open to visitors. However, areas like North Lake Road, Bartlett Flats, the Yellow Cliffs boat launch, SB Cove, and the Rattlesnake Day Use Area are still closed.
As the situation evolves, more updates will be provided. Stay informed and stay safe during this wildfire season.
Wildfire Go-Kit:
Residents in wildfire-prone areas are advised to have an emergency supplies kit ready in case of evacuation. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends storing essentials such as water, food, first aid supplies, and important documents in a portable container for easy access during emergencies.
Additional items that should be included in your go-kit are sleeping bags, a battery-powered radio, dust masks, matches, and a change of clothing. For a complete checklist of recommended supplies, visit the NFPA website.
If you have been affected by a wildfire or other natural disaster, you can contact the American Red Cross for assistance.
Ready, Set, Go! Wildfire Evacuation:
During wildfire evacuations, the ‘Ready, Set, Go’ method is used to alert residents about the necessary actions to take. Be prepared by having an emergency kit ready, knowing evacuation routes, and staying informed about evacuation alerts in your area.
Learn more about the ‘Ready, Set, Go’ system by visiting the Arizona Emergency Information Network website.
