Investigation Launched into Claims of Sexual Harassment in Tolleson School District
During a recent regular board meeting, Tolleson Union High School District made a significant announcement – an official investigation will be conducted into allegations of sexual harassment against the board president.
Superintendent Jeremy Calles filed the claims against Dr. Elda Luna-Najera, stating that she had made unwanted advances towards him over a period of months. Calles emphasized that he had clearly communicated his discomfort with the situation.
Following an emergency meeting where Calles’s position as superintendent was discussed, he alleges facing retaliation. Despite this, he remains in his role at the district.
At a subsequent meeting, a parent of a student at the district, Maria Smith, voiced support for Calles and expressed concern over the situation. However, Governing Board Vice-President Dr. Kino Flores announced an investigation will be conducted by a third party to examine the sexual harassment claims thoroughly before any action is taken.
While Calles declined to comment further on the situation, Luna-Najera left the meeting without addressing the allegations against her.
