Phoenix police have arrested a teenage boy in connection with posting mass shooting threats on social media targeting 12 different schools in the Valley. Following the threats, approximately 6,000 students were absent from the schools.

The arrest was made on Sep. 19, five days after the police were alerted to the threats. The boy confessed to making the threats as part of a dare from a peer group. He is facing multiple felony charges, including terroristic threats and computer tampering.

Phoenix police issued a warning urging individuals to report any threats they see and not to share or repost the information on social media. Reposting such threats can hinder investigations and spread misinformation.

Those convicted of Making a Terroristic Threat can also be held financially responsible for the incident and investigation costs. This serves as a reminder that such threats are a zero-tolerance issue.
