State Superintendent Tom Horne Announces Renewed Push to Ban Cell Phones in Classrooms
In a bid to address the growing issue of cell phone use disrupting classrooms and causing teachers to leave the profession, Arizona State Superintendent Tom Horne is set to make a significant announcement. Horne plans to introduce a renewed push to enact a state law that will prohibit cell phones in classrooms.

Horne will make the announcement at a public address scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, where he will be joined by Mitchell Rutherford from Tucson. Rutherford, a former teacher, recently resigned from his position due to frustration over the widespread use of cell phones by students during class.
Joining Horne and Rutherford for the announcement will be State Sen. Shawnna Bolick, Payson school district governing board member Susan Ward, and Supt. Dr. Bob Papalardo from the Apache Junction district.
