Remembering Al McCoy: Phoenix Suns to Honor Legendary Broadcaster
As the NBA season approaches, the Phoenix Suns are preparing to pay tribute to a broadcasting icon. The team will wear a black band on their jerseys throughout the 2024-25 season to honor the legendary voice of the Suns, Al McCoy.
McCoy, who served as the “Voice of the Suns” for an impressive 51 seasons, passed away peacefully on September 21. His absence will be deeply felt in the Arizona sports community.
The decision to commemorate McCoy with the jersey band was announced by the Suns ownership, with owner Mat Ishbia expressing, “Al McCoy’s voice represented the best of the Phoenix Suns organization for over five decades. The impact he had on this organization, this city, and our fans cannot be understated. This jersey band will be a reminder of Al’s enduring legacy every time we take the court.”
The tribute band, featuring “Al” in white lettering, will be worn on the left shoulder of the Suns’ jerseys throughout the season.
Devin Booker, Suns guard, shared his thoughts on McCoy’s legacy, likening the loss to losing a family member. “[Al is] the historian of this franchise,” Booker remarked, “He’s embedded in this culture and this city forever.”
Join us in honoring the memory of Al McCoy as the Phoenix Suns embark on a season dedicated to preserving his impact and legacy.
