The Mega Millions Jackpot Continues to Grow, Reaching $740 Million
The chances of winning are one in 302,575,350.
WASHINGTON — The prize money for the Mega Millions lottery has increased to $740 million after no one won in the draw on Tuesday, September 3rd.
The jackpot has been steadily growing over the past few months. A potential winner in Friday night’s draw could take home the seventh-largest prize in the Mega Millions lottery game.
A ticket in Kansas and one in Michigan matched the five white balls, each winning one million dollars in the Tuesday draw.
The most recent Mega Millions winner was an anonymous player from Illinois who won the June 4th prize of $552 million, taking home $260.2 million in cash. Big wins have been a common occurrence in 2024: A ticket sold in New Jersey won $1,130 million in the March Mega Millions draw, and a ticket from Oregon won the $1,300 million Powerball jackpot in April.
The chances of winning are one in 302,575,350.
In the past seven occasions when the jackpot increased to this level in Mega Millions, it continued to grow to over $1,000 million.
“It’s quite rare that the Mega Millions prize in the range of $656 million (a world record for a lottery prize in March 2024) and $1,000 million has never been won,” said the online lottery game.
Winning Numbers for the Tuesday, September 3, 2024 Draw
The winning numbers were 12-41-43-52-55 and the Mega Ball was 9 with a Megaplier of 4.
