Study finds agreement among Arizonans on key issues

Welcome to the 2024 Arizona Voters’ Agenda! Every election cycle, the Center for the Future of Arizona conducts a survey to find common ground among voters from various backgrounds and ideologies. This year, the results are in, and they reveal some surprising areas of agreement.

The Center for the Future of Arizona (CFA) recently released the findings of its latest Arizona Voters’ Agenda survey. This comprehensive agenda highlights issues that a majority of Arizonans agree on, regardless of their political beliefs or age. For an issue to make it onto the agenda, over 50% of voters had to strongly agree on its importance.

So, what did the survey reveal? Arizonans are united in their desire for more long-term water planning, comprehensive immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship, and a reduction in political divisiveness and partisanship.

According to Sybil Francis, Chair, President, and CEO of CFA, “We aren’t as polarized and divided as we hear so much about…I see myself as, in part, in the business of creating hope.” The group aims to bring voters to the forefront of the discussion and hopes that elected officials will prioritize issues that resonate with a broad spectrum of voters.

Here are some key takeaways from the survey:

  • 91% of Arizona voters are concerned about political divisiveness and partisanship
  • 80% believe that rent and home prices are too high in Arizona
  • 67% do not think that Arizona’s current water policies are sustainable in the long term
  • 66% disapprove of recent cuts to the state’s need-based financial aid program
  • 77% support comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship
  • 81% believe that their vote can make a difference

The CFA will continue to analyze the data and release further insights from the survey. Francis remains optimistic about the findings, stating, “We hear all about polarization and division, but look at where we agree. We’re trying to hold out kind of a beacon of light, which says, ‘Don’t lose hope. There is hope for coming together.'”

The 2024 Arizona Voters’ Agenda was conducted in collaboration with Arizona-based HighGround, Inc. The survey reached 500 randomly selected individuals with a margin of error of ±4.3%. For more detailed information, you can read the full Arizona Voters’ Agenda here.
