The Future of Law Enforcement: Drone as First Responder
In today’s fast-paced world, every second counts when it comes to emergency response. That’s why the Scottsdale Police Department in Arizona is leading the way by incorporating drones into their fleet to ensure quick and efficient response to emergency calls.
With 7 drones already assigned for patrol, the department is now introducing a revolutionary new addition – the “drone-as-first-responder” or DFR. Unlike traditional drones, the DFR is designed to be the first on the scene of an emergency call, providing valuable intelligence and support to officers on the ground.
Created by Aerodome, the DFR operates at an impressive speed of 53 mph within a 3-mile radius. Controlled by an operator from the Scottsdale PD’s real-time crime center, this cutting-edge technology has already proven to be life-saving.
According to CEO Rahul Sidhu, the DFR has the capability to take off within minutes of a 911 call and reach the location of the emergency in record time. This unique approach not only enhances the safety of the community but also provides crucial support to law enforcement officers.
The Scottsdale Police Department is proud to be the first agency in Arizona to deploy the DFR, following the success of its implementation in police agencies in California. As Assistant Chief Rich Slavin stated, “The real value in this is the safety that it provides the community. Having something overhead within a minute or so, giving that intelligence down to officers on the street.”
