Red Lobster, the iconic seafood-themed restaurant known for its “all you can eat shrimp” promotion, has unfortunately announced the closure of 23 more locations in the coming weeks as part of an ongoing bankruptcy filing. This news comes on the heels of the chain already shedding over 100 restaurants in recent months.
The closures were revealed in a court filing on Aug. 22 in the United States Bankruptcy Court Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division. The company stated that it would be rejecting the leases on the listed locations and vacating the premises by Aug. 31.
Currently operating more than 500 restaurants primarily in the U.S. and Canada, Red Lobster employs nearly 36,000 people. The latest closures are part of a larger restructuring process that includes a proposed sale to Fortress Investment Group, which also owns chains like Logan’s Roadhouse and J. Alexander’s.
In July, it was reported that Red Lobster intends to accept an offer from Fortress as no other bids were received. This move signals a new chapter for the chain as it navigates through financial challenges and works towards a more sustainable future.
While this news may be disheartening for fans of Red Lobster, the company is taking steps to ensure its long-term success and continue serving fresh and delicious seafood to customers across the country.
