Honoring a Fallen Hero: Remembering Officer Zane Coolidge

Earlier this month, Officer Zane Coolidge was tragically shot while responding to a burglary. Despite fighting bravely, he succumbed to his injuries days later, leaving behind his wife and 5-month-old daughter.

On Tuesday night, the Phoenix Police Department’s Mountain View Precinct was filled with people paying tribute to Officer Coolidge. They gathered for a candlelight vigil, remembering his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

While many did not know Officer Coolidge personally, his dedication to the community left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.

At just 29 years old, Coolidge’s life was cut short as he responded to an attempted car break-in, where he was shot by the suspect along with Officer Matthew Haney. Haney survived his injuries, but Coolidge tragically passed away in the hospital.

The vigil, organized by the Phoenix Block Watch Advisory Board, was a heartfelt display of support for law enforcement and a reminder of the importance of community involvement in maintaining neighborhood safety.

Coolidge will be laid to rest on Wednesday, with the funeral service being streamed on the department’s YouTube page. The public is encouraged to line the sidewalks during the procession as a show of respect for the fallen officer.

As we honor Officer Zane Coolidge’s memory, let us stand together as a community to support our police officers and work towards creating safer neighborhoods for all.
