Recognizing the invaluable role that women play in law enforcement, the Phoenix Police Foundation recently hosted the 7th Annual Women in Blue awards ceremony. The event was a celebration of the dedication and contributions of women in policing.

Tim Thomas, President of the Phoenix Police Foundation, emphasized the importance of highlighting the achievements of women in the field of law enforcement. He described women in blue as an “emerging force” in policing and applauded their exceptional work.

Thomas expressed the Foundation’s commitment to promoting gender diversity within the Phoenix Police Department. Currently, female officers make up only 13% of the force, and the department aims to increase this percentage to 30% by 2030 through their 30X30 campaign.

The awards ceremony recognized women in both sworn and non-sworn roles across three categories. One of the recipients, police assistant Maya Kozareva, was honored with the Thelda Williams Up and Comer Award. Kozareva, originally from Bulgaria, shared her inspirational journey of overcoming challenges and her aspirations to become a sworn officer specializing in crisis intervention.

Sergeant Shannon Warrior was presented with the Elevating Women in Law Enforcement Award for her role in promoting women within the department. Warrior, who began her law enforcement career at the age of 31, emphasized the importance of passion and communication skills in policing.

Officer Morgan Bullis was awarded the Act of Valor Award for her courageous actions in the line of duty. Bullis, who was injured during an incident, expressed her dedication to serving and protecting the community, especially vulnerable individuals who rely on law enforcement for support.
