The Heroic Legacy of Officer Zane Coolidge
On a somber Wednesday morning, the City of Phoenix joined together at Dream City Church to honor the life and legacy of Officer Zane Coolidge, a young police officer tragically taken from us too soon.
Officer Coolidge, just 29 years old, was known for his kindness and empathy towards all he encountered during his five-year tenure with the police department. Tragically, his life was cut short earlier this month when he was shot and killed while responding to a car break-in, leaving behind his wife and 5-month-old daughter, Emma.
His partner, Officer Matthew Haney, also sustained injuries during the incident but survived.
At the memorial service, hundreds of law enforcement officials, first responders, city and state leaders, and members of the community gathered to pay tribute to Coolidge’s heroism. As his body was escorted to the church, bystanders lined the streets, expressing their gratitude for his service and sacrifice.
Inside the church, Coolidge’s family shared heartfelt memories of their son, husband, and father. His wife, Kristin, recounted a moving story of how Coolidge showed compassion to an inmate in crisis during her time working as a nurse. She reflected on his professionalism, kindness, and empathy, highlighting the value he brought to the world.
Following the emotional service, Coolidge was honored with military traditions, including a presentation of colors, a 21-gun salute, and his last call played over the radio. Phoenix PD Chief Michael Sullivan vowed to ensure that Coolidge’s daughter would always know the kind of man and officer her father was.
Despite the tragedy, Officer Zane Coolidge’s legacy of compassion, bravery, and dedication to serving his community will live on, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
