Phoenix Man Seeks Help After Hit-and-Run Accident Leaves Him Injured
Manuel Ortiz recently purchased an electric scooter to aid in his mobility, but now he is unable to use it due to a hit-and-run accident he experienced while running errands in Phoenix.
According to Ortiz, the incident occurred on 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye when he was struck by a car while crossing the street on his scooter at around 10:30 am on Sunday. He was on his way to pick up prescriptions and lunch meat for his dog when the white Cadillac hit him at the crosswalk.
Reflecting on the accident, Ortiz said, “I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was just trying to live my life and take care of my responsibilities.” The impact caused injuries such as road rash, a swollen palm, and exacerbated his pre-existing back condition.
Despite the hit-and-run nature of the incident, Ortiz was grateful for the witness who saw it happen and the passerby who provided aid until paramedics arrived.
Describing the car that hit him, Ortiz mentioned it was a white Cadillac with non-tinted windows, a light or tan interior, an Arizona license plate, and a yellow cover on the plate. He hopes that sharing his story will raise awareness about responsible driving practices.
Speaking about the driver who fled the scene, Ortiz emphasized, “I’m not seeking punishment, I just want them to take responsibility for the damage caused to my scooter. Leaving the scene only makes a bad situation worse.”
The Phoenix Police Department is currently investigating the collision, and Ortiz is hopeful that the responsible party will come forward and make amends.
