Phoenix Fire Department Task Force Deployed to Assist in Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts
In times of crisis, heroes emerge, and the Phoenix Fire Department is no exception. They are sending their Arizona Task Force 1 to provide crucial assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Departing at 2 p.m. on Friday, the task force will focus on rescue and recovery operations in the regions affected by Hurricane Helene. Their expertise lies in water rescues, technical rescues, emergency paramedicine, and the search for human remains.
Hurricane Helene made landfall in northeastern Florida on Thursday night, causing catastrophic flooding. As rescue teams are being mobilized to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, the death toll has already reached a staggering 35 people.
Arizona Task Force 1 has a long history of responding to some of America’s most devastating disasters. They were on the ground during the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and Hurricanes Ike and Gustav in 2008.
