Phoenix Veterans Receive Generous Donation of Car
Recently, a heartwarming story of community support unfolded in the East Valley when a family generously donated a 2004 Chevy Malibu Max to Air Force veteran Steve Mason. This act of kindness was made possible through the collaboration of different community organizations and individuals who strive to uplift and assist our veterans.
“Meineke Mike” from Meineke Car Care Center recognized the struggles veterans face, especially when it comes to basic auto repairs. He expressed, “Seeing some of my brothers and sisters needing help is part of the reason why we’re trying to do this. Whether it’s their AC fixed in the summer or even a radiator, sometimes they just don’t have the funds to get it fixed.”
After Mason fell victim to an auto theft incident in July, making it challenging for him to commute from Tucson to Phoenix for nursing school at Arizona State University, Mike and Marcus Brown from Veterans 5-9, a local group dedicated to assisting veterans, came together to find a solution.
Brown explained, “This is one of those situations where our services can help assist a veteran without all the red tape. Essentially, we’re able to connect them quickly with the resources they need.” Both Mike and Brown, having served in the military themselves, understand the transition from military to civilian life and the hardships that come with it, prompting them to help Mason in his time of need.
With the support of the Meineke team and Republic Services, the donated Chevy Malibu Max was given a thorough tune-up, ensuring it was in top condition for Mason. Mike expressed gratitude, saying, “We couldn’t have done it without our amazing team of technicians who spent their own time working on this car for Mason. Plus, Republic Services stepped in to help cover some of the costs for repairs.”
