Welcome to the future of safety in ridesharing! Lyft has officially launched a new verification system in Phoenix to ensure that passengers are who they claim to be before entering a vehicle.

On September 3rd, Lyft announced that Phoenix is one of nine markets where they will be testing this new verification system. The process involves verifying the passenger’s personal information through reliable third-party databases. If the information cannot be validated, passengers may be asked to upload a photo of a government-issued ID.

This new system allows Lyft drivers to review the passenger’s name, verification status, and profile picture before accepting a ride, providing an extra layer of security for both drivers and passengers.

Audrey Liu, Vice President of Passenger Experience and Community Safety at Lyft, expressed that this passenger verification program is a direct response to the requests of their driver community for enhanced peace of mind and trust in who they are picking up.
