The National Weather Service says only a lucky few will see rain accumulation from the storm.

PHOENIX — Storms are developing east of the Phoenix metro area, but only a lucky few will see rain accumulate this holiday weekend, the National Weather Service says.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that storm chances will continue Sunday and bring gusty winds to the Valley. The most likely time for isolated showers in the metro area will be between 3 and 8 p.m.

But those hoping for rain are likely not going to see it, NWS said. There were pockets of heavy and quick downpours earlier in the day near Globe and Apache Junction, but rain accumulation is not expected to be significant if at all outside of the East Valley area.

A few weather advisories for parts of southeastern Arizona are also on the radar for the holiday weekend. The NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Florence, Coolidge, and La Palma.
