Arizona Diamondbacks Star Ketel Marte Aggravates Ankle Injury
Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte aggravated his sprained left ankle when he checked his swing Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. This setback came after Marte was out of the starting lineup on Sunday, being the designated hitter on Saturday and missing the three previous games. He entered as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning but went down to the ground after a check-swing and needed assistance to walk off the field.
Manager Torey Lovullo provided little updates on Marte’s condition, stating, “I don’t have any updates. Just being evaluated right now. It didn’t look great. He creates a lot of force when he pushes off the ground. A very strong man. It just got him. We probably need to re-evaluate and find out how quickly we can get him back.” This injury adds to the list of key players for Arizona on the injured list, including first baseman Christian Walker and catcher Gabriel Moreno.
Despite the setbacks, the Diamondbacks hold an NL wild card position after an impressive run of 28-13 since the start of July. However, the Rays’ three-game sweep marked the Diamondbacks’ first three-game skid since June 26-28.
