The Impact of School Threats Made by Kids in Maricopa County
Recent reports from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office have highlighted the concerning trend of school threats made by children. Since the beginning of September, there have been 11 cases involving kids making threats against schools in the area.
One such incident occurred in Goodyear, where a juvenile was charged with making a terrorist threat against students of Estrella Mountain Elementary School. The threat was reportedly made online and through text messages while the child was interacting with other juveniles.
Goodyear police revealed that the suspect is a former student of the elementary school. The child was taken into custody at their home and subsequently booked into a juvenile detention facility.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Several other children in Arizona are also facing criminal charges for making threats against schools in recent weeks. These incidents have prompted a strong response from the county attorney’s office.
County Attorney Rachel Mitchell emphasized the seriousness of these threats, stating, “What children and parents need to understand is that these threats are very serious, and we take them seriously. There’s much more to it than just ‘kids being kids.’”
