Phoenix Gymnast Jade Carey Returns Home to Oregon State University with Olympic Medals
Phoenix gymnast Jade Carey made her triumphant return to Oregon State University on Wednesday, bringing with her two medals from the 2024 Paris Olympics. The most decorated gymnast in Oregon State’s history was welcomed back by Beaver Nation with open arms.
The university held a public celebration for Carey at Parker Plaza near Reser Stadium on August 7, where she rode through in the back of a pickup truck while supporters lined the streets to cheer her on.
Addressing the crowd after the parade, Carey expressed her gratitude to the OSU community and announced her commitment to the university for the upcoming 2025 gymnastics season. “I look forward to continuing to compete, pushing my limits, and striving for excellence with the best team by my side,” she said. “Thank you all for your incredible support. Let’s keep pushing forward and making history together. As always, go Beavs.”
During the parade, Carey also took the opportunity to thank her OSU teammates and Beaver Nation for their support, both in person and on social media, while she was competing in Paris.
Despite facing challenges in the qualifying round due to illness, Carey bounced back and helped Team USA secure a gold medal in the gymnastics team final with her impressive vault. Additionally, she won a bronze in the women’s individual vault event.
“It feels really, really, really special just to be a part of the team and contribute,” Carey said after the gymnastics team final. “Taking home a gold medal feels really special.”
After rising to stardom at the Tokyo Olympics, where she won a gold medal on floor, Carey has solidified her place on Team USA with another outstanding performance in Paris. She is one of two gymnasts representing the Pacific Northwest, alongside Jordan Chiles.
Despite hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Carey has found a second home at Oregon State University, where she is entering her senior year. She credits the university’s state-of-the-art gymnastics facility and supportive coaching staff for helping her achieve her goals.
Oregon State President Jayathi Murphy expressed her pride and admiration for Carey’s accomplishments, stating, “We’re just thrilled for her.”
As Carey continues her journey in the world of gymnastics, Beaver Nation stands by her side, cheering her on every step of the way.
