The Grand Canyon: A Tragic Flash Flood
Chenoa Nickerson, a 33-year-old woman from Gilbert, is currently missing after being swept away by flash flood waters in the Grand Canyon. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Aug. 22 near Havasu Creek, where several hikers found themselves stranded due to the sudden flood.
Nickerson was swept into Havasu Creek approximately half a mile above the confluence with the Colorado River. Unfortunately, she was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident. Nickerson is described as 5′ 8″ with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact the NPS ISB Tip Line at 888-653-0009.
