Vice President Kamala Harris’ Campaign Raises $540 Million for Election Battle
After Vice President Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech, her campaign experienced a surge in donations, marking their best fundraising hour since launch day, according to a memo from campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon released on Sunday.
Since President Joe Biden endorsed Harris and ended his campaign on July 21, the campaign has had no trouble securing support from donors. The momentum continued during last week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, accepted their nominations.
“Just before Vice President Harris’ acceptance speech Thursday night, we officially crossed the $500 million mark,” O’Malley Dillon wrote. “Immediately after her speech, we saw our best fundraising hour since launch day.”
While former President Donald Trump also remains a strong fundraiser, Harris seems to have outpaced him in her month-old campaign. Trump’s campaign raised $138.7 million in July, but Harris raised more during her White House bid’s opening week. At the start of August, Trump’s campaign reported $327 million in cash on hand.
The $540 million raised by Harris for President, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees signifies strong support for her candidacy. O’Malley Dillon noted that during convention week, nearly a third of contributions came from first-time donors, with a significant portion from young voters and women, crucial groups for Harris’ success in November.
Additionally, the Harris campaign has seen a surge in volunteer support, with nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts signed up for during convention week to help boost Harris’ chances in the upcoming election.
