John Amos, the beloved actor known for his roles in “Good Times” and “Roots,” has passed away at the age of 84. His career was marked by iconic characters that resonated with audiences across generations.

Amos first gained fame as James Evans Sr. on the groundbreaking sitcom “Good Times,” where he portrayed the patriarch of a Black two-parent family living in challenging circumstances. Despite his success on the show, Amos was eventually fired due to creative differences with the writing staff.

However, he quickly rebounded by landing the role of adult Kunta Kinte in the miniseries “Roots,” based on Alex Haley’s novel about the legacy of slavery in America. The show earned critical acclaim, and Amos’ performance was hailed as a career-defining moment.
