GM Recalls SUVs and Trucks Due to Brake Fluid Issue
Ensuring your vehicle’s safety is crucial, and General Motors is taking steps to address potential issues with over 449,000 of its SUVs and pickup trucks. The recall focuses on the electronic brake control module software, which may fail to display a warning light when there is a loss of brake fluid.
The affected models include certain 2023-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESVs, 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban 1500, 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, and 2023-2024 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles. Without the warning light, drivers may unknowingly operate their vehicles with low brake fluid, leading to reduced braking performance and an increased risk of a crash.
Fortunately, GM will provide a free software update to address the issue. Owner notification letters are set to be mailed on October 28, and affected vehicle owners can also reach out to customer service for GMC, Chevrolet, or Cadillac for more information.
In addition to this brake fluid recall, GM has also recently addressed a separate concern involving faulty tailgate switches in certain Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks from the 2020 through 2024 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highlighted the risk of water getting into the switches, causing the tailgates to open unexpectedly while in park gear.
To mitigate this risk, GM advises owners to ensure their tailgates are securely closed and latched before driving and will provide replacements for the exterior touchpad switch. By staying informed and addressing these issues promptly, vehicle owners can prioritize their safety and the safety of others on the road.
