Rachel Hansen: A Tragic Story of Loss
Rachel Hansen was just 19 years old when her life was tragically cut short. In June 2022, she was shot and killed inside her Gilbert apartment, leaving her family and community in shock and mourning.
12News recently obtained the transcript of the 911 call and police bodycam footage from that fateful night, shedding light on the events that led to Hansen’s untimely death.
According to reports, Hansen called 911 to report that a stranger had entered her apartment near San Tan Village Parkway and Ray Road. In a desperate plea for help, she told the dispatcher, “Hi. I’ve been shot. Someone broke in and shot me,” providing her address and apartment number before pleading for immediate assistance due to her injuries.
Despite her brave efforts to seek help, Hansen’s life could not be saved, and she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The police bodycam footage, though heavily redacted, offers a glimpse into the chaotic scene as officers arrived at the apartment complex. The investigation into Hansen’s murder has been marred by a lack of information, with Gilbert police withholding details and refusing to release key records.
As Hansen’s family continues to grapple with the loss of their loved one, they remain hopeful that justice will be served. With a $7,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case, the family urges anyone with information to come forward and help bring closure to their ordeal.
Despite the challenges and obstacles they face, Hansen’s family remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice. They have taken to distributing fliers and raising awareness in the hopes of keeping Rachel’s memory alive and holding those responsible for her death accountable.
As Hansen’s mother, Kim, aptly puts it, “As Long As We’re Breathing, There’s Hope.” The family refuses to give up on their quest for justice and closure, hoping that one day, the truth will come to light.
