Ford Motor Co. Makes Changes to Diversity Policies
DEARBORN, Mo. — Ford Motor Co. has recently announced changes to its diversity, equity, and inclusion policies in response to pressure from conservative groups. In a memo sent by CEO Jim Farley to all employees, the company outlined several key changes.
One significant change is Ford’s decision to no longer participate in external culture surveys, including an annual survey by the Human Rights Campaign that measures workplace inclusion for LGBTQ+ employees. Farley emphasized that the company will now focus its efforts and resources on serving customers, teams, and communities rather than publicly commenting on current societal issues.
Farley acknowledged the diverse range of beliefs held by employees and customers, stating that Ford has been reevaluating its policies over the past year as the external and legal landscape concerning political and social issues continues to evolve. Despite these changes, Ford remains committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace.
Robby Starbuck, a conservative political commentator, recently criticized Ford’s policies as being “woke.” His investigation into Ford’s diversity policies prompted the company’s announcement. The Human Rights Campaign expressed disappointment in Ford’s decision, calling it a departure from the company’s long-standing values and policies.
Several other companies have also made changes to their diversity programs in response to various factors, such as the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on affirmative action in college admissions and backlash from conservative groups online.
