Team USA Wins Silver in Para Badminton
Team USA made history in the para badminton mixed doubles event in the SH6 classification for athletes of short stature by winning a silver medal. Miles Krajewski and Jayci Simon, both 19 years old, captured the silver in the mixed doubles SH6 classification.
Despite falling short in the final match against a more experienced Chinese duo, Krajewski and Simon were elated by their performance. They had set their sights on the gold but were proud of their achievement, especially since they had secured their spot in the Paralympics just a few months earlier.
Both athletes expressed their pride in representing Team USA and their determination to grow the sport of para badminton in the country. Simon, in particular, credited Krajewski’s father for introducing her to the sport and emphasized the need for more funding and opportunities for adaptive sports.
While para badminton is still gaining popularity in the U.S., Krajewski and Simon are optimistic about its future. They hope to inspire other young athletes with impairments to consider para badminton as a competitive sport.
Looking ahead, Krajewski and Simon plan to focus on their academic and professional pursuits before returning to the badminton court. Despite the challenges they may face, the duo remains determined to continue their trailblazing journey in the world of para badminton.
For now, their immediate plans involve celebrating their silver medal victory and fulfilling the required drug testing obligations. But as they look to the future, Krajewski and Simon are ready to take on whatever comes their way in pursuit of their dreams.
