BUCKEYE, Ariz. — Buckeye Union High School in the West Valley campus was evacuated on Friday following the detection of a possible gas leak. The evacuation was done as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all students and staff members.
The Buckeye Fire Department responded to reports of strong odors coming from two buildings on the campus. Upon arrival, firefighters found readings on gas meters, indicating a potential leak. It was later revealed that an appliance in the school’s home economics building may have been the source of the leak.
As a safety measure, students were released for the day, and the campus was closed for further investigation by Southwest Gas and the fire department.
